Gyeongbuk Independence Movement Memorial Hall Hosts Academic Conference Commemorating 100th Anniversary of the Formation of the Daehan Tonggunbu and Tonguibu
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] The Gyeongbuk Province Independence Movement Memorial Hall will hold an academic conference commemorating the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Daehan Tonggunbu and Daehan Tonguibu at 1 p.m. on September 16th in the Wangsan Hall of the memorial hall.
This academic conference is organized to highlight the people from Gyeongbuk who were active in the Daehan Tonggunbu and Daehan Tonguibu, representative independence movement organizations in the southern Manchuria region during the 1920s.
The Daehan Tonggunbu and Daehan Tonguibu were formed in 1920 after the Gyeongsin Incident to unite the scattered independence armies in Manchuria.
Among them, people from Gyeongbuk such as Kim Dongsam, Kim Wonsik, Kim Jangsik, Lee Deoksuk, Ryu Yeondeok, Ryu Sejin (all from Andong), Nam Byeonggu, Park Uiyeol, Park Uihoon, Lee Gyeomho (all from Yeongdeok), Park Heegwang (Gumi), Son Byeongheon (Yeongcheon), Shin Jinhyun (Uiseong), Jang Seyong (Uljin), and Oh Duyoung (Gyeongsan) participated.

View original imageThe academic conference will proceed with six thematic presentations and a comprehensive discussion.
▲ The first topic will be presented by Dr. Jang Seyoon from Sungkyunkwan University East Asian History Research Institute on ‘The Formation of Daehan Tonguibu and the Activities of the Volunteer Army,’ focusing on people from Gyeongbuk. ▲ The second topic will be presented by Mr. Kim Hojin from Chungbuk National University on ‘The Conflict within the Leadership of Daehan Tonguibu and the Seogando Incident.’ ▲ The third topic will be presented by researcher Kim Kyungjun from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on ‘The Life and Independence Movement of Kim Jangsik from Andong.’
▲ The fourth topic will be presented by Mr. Kim Donghyun from the Korea Institute of Korean Studies, focusing on literary reviews and letters, titled ‘A Study on Materials Related to Ilsong (One Pine) Kim Dongsam.’ ▲ The fifth topic will be presented by Mr. Jo Wooje from Andong University on ‘A Study on Digital Content Plans Related to Daehan Tonggunbu and Tonguibu.’ ▲ The sixth topic will be presented by Professor Kim Juyong from Wonkwang University on ‘The Domestic Fundraising Activities of Daehan Tonguibu.’
During the comprehensive discussion, Chair Professor Park Geolsun (Chungbuk National University) will lead the discussion with Professor Park Hwan (Suwon University), Professor Kang Yunjung (Andong University), Professor Kwon Daewoong (former Daekyung University), Professor Lee Gyehyung (Kookmin University), Professor Tae Jiho (Andong University), and Professor Lee Seongwoo (Chungnam National University).

Jung Jinyoung, director of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Independence Movement Memorial Hall, said, “Through this academic conference, we hope to create an opportunity to reexamine the people from Gyeongbuk who were active in the Daehan Tonggunbu and Daehan Tonguibu, contribute to restoring the history of the independence movement in Gyeongbuk by highlighting the activities of Gyeongbuk people who contributed to the integration movement of independence armies in southern Manchuria in the 1920s, and expect the research on the independence movement history of Gyeongbuk to expand.”
