"Why Won't You Meet Me?" 50s Man Arrested and Sent to Prosecution for Stalking Ex and Pouring Gasoline
Previously Sent Without Detention in July on Assault Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Amid growing social outrage over stalking crimes, a man in his 50s who went to find his ex-girlfriend, poured gasoline on her, and committed violence has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the morning of the 16th, the Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent Mr. A, a man in his 50s, to prosecution under charges of the Stalking Punishment Act and special law on retaliation crimes.
Mr. A is accused of going to the workplace of his ex-girlfriend, Ms. B (in her 40s), around 9 p.m. on the 12th, assaulting her, and then pouring gasoline on her body. At the time of the crime, Mr. A was also carrying a lighter.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A stalked Ms. B for two months and committed the crime because she refused to meet him.
In the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "Ms. B had previously reported him for assault, so I held a grudge."
It was also reported that Mr. A had a prior record of being sent to prosecution without detention in July for assaulting Ms. B.
Meanwhile, on the 14th, a female subway staff member patrolling Sindang Station in Seoul was attacked and killed in the subway station restroom.

The perpetrator of the incident had previously been accused twice of illegal filming and stalking but was not detained, and safety measures were terminated after one month without extension due to the victim's lack of request.
