Suwon City Invests 300 Million to Create 6 Safe Return Routes in 'Intensive Patrol Zones'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has created 'Safe Return Paths' in six locations, including the area around Homaesil Elementary School and other densely populated residential areas.
The Safe Return Paths are bright and safe streets where the environment and safety infrastructure have been improved in focused patrol zones designated by the Suwon Southern, Central, and Western Police Stations.
From April to August, Suwon City selected six sites for the Safe Return Path project: the densely populated residential area around Homaesil Elementary School in Homaesil-dong (715m), the residential and commercial area around Hwahoeng Senior Citizens' Center in Yeonghwa-dong, the street around Seongyeong Library in Haenggung-dong (360m), the residential and commercial area adjacent to Ajou University in Uman 2-dong, the residential and commercial area adjacent to Samsung Electronics in Maetan 3-dong, and the residential and commercial area adjacent to Mangpo Middle School in Mangpo 1-dong. The city invested a total of 300 million KRW, including 150 million KRW each from provincial and city funds, in these areas.
The city installed 48 logo projectors, 774 solar road markers, and 5 solar-powered LED signboards along the six Safe Return Paths. Additionally, anti-slip pavement was applied over a total area of 2,740㎡.
Using logo projectors, colorful phrases such as "Walk Safely. Safe Return Path" and "Safe Suwon, Our Neighborhood Safe Return Path," along with flower images, were projected onto dark alleys. Solar road markers were installed on side roads without clear separation between vehicle lanes and sidewalks.
LED signboards indicating the Safe Return Paths were installed in various locations, and anti-slip pavement was applied in children's protection zones and on sloped alleys.
The city began the Safe Return Path project in 2019 and has created Safe Return Paths at 19 locations to date.
