'Nuclear Negotiations' Mean "Agreement if the US Realizes Reality" ... US "Doubts Iran's Willingness"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jung] Iran, which is negotiating nuclear talks with the West including the United States, claimed that a quick agreement is possible if the U.S. makes a realistic decision.
On the 14th (local time), according to the Iranian government, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a phone call with the Nigerian Foreign Minister the day before, "If the U.S. shows a realistic attitude, the nuclear negotiations can be concluded quickly."
Regarding the issue of undeclared nuclear material sites in Iran, which has been a key point of disagreement in the negotiations, Minister Amir-Abdollahian mentioned, "The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should approach the matter technically rather than politically."
Earlier, the IAEA adopted a board resolution condemning Iran for failing to provide credible explanations regarding the detection of nuclear material at three undeclared sites. The issue of undeclared nuclear material sites has been a major concern between the IAEA and Iran. Iran has argued that the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) restoration is possible only if the IAEA withdraws its investigations of these sites.
Minister Amir-Abdollahian emphasized, "Iran has never left the negotiation table and will continue to strive for a strong and sustainable nuclear agreement."
On the other hand, the U.S. has taken a hard line, expressing doubts about Iran's willingness to negotiate in the recent nuclear talks. According to foreign media, the U.S. criticized Iran in a statement released at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on the 12th, saying, "Iran is not a willing partner in negotiations to restore the nuclear agreement." Recently, Iran and the U.S. exchanged opinions on the European Union’s final mediation proposal related to the nuclear talks. However, it is reported that both sides failed to narrow their core disagreements, including the issue of undeclared nuclear material sites.
