Metropolitan Landfill Waste Inflow Decreased by 37% Compared to Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation announced on the 14th that the amount of waste brought into the Sudokwon Landfill Site from January to August this year was 1.21 million tons, a 37% decrease compared to 1.94 million tons during the same period last year.
The amount of large construction waste brought in decreased by 91.5%, from 429,000 tons last year to 36,000 tons this year.
Sewage sludge decreased from 226,000 tons to 115,000 tons, and the amount of residuals from intermediate treatment of construction waste dropped from 485,000 tons to 292,000 tons, representing decreases of 49.2% and 39.8%, respectively.
The reduction in waste inflow is attributed to the ban on direct inflow of large construction waste starting this year, which made intermediate treatment mandatory, and the recycling of combustible waste such as waste vinyl as alternative fuel at cement plants.
The decrease in sewage sludge inflow is linked to a reduction in the amount recycled as solid fuel at the Sudokwon Landfill Site. The landfill corporation reduced the scale of sewage sludge recycling as the use of solid fuel by major consumers, such as coal-fired power plants, declined due to measures like the coal power generation cap system.
