Expo Hosting Efforts in Japan, Attended 'SK Night' in the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, is expected to depart for a business trip to Japan as early as today (14th).
According to business circles, Chairman Chey will finish his schedule at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the morning and board a flight to Japan either this evening or tomorrow morning.
Chairman Chey is known to have official engagements in Japan for two days, from the 15th to the 16th. However, it has not been confirmed whether this trip is related to activities for attracting the Busan World Expo. So far, Chairman Chey's side has been trying to arrange a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio during this Japan trip, but this has also not been confirmed.
However, since Japan will host the 2025 Expo (Osaka), Chairman Chey is expected to receive know-how on the Expo selection process from Japanese political and business figures and request their support for the Busan Expo bid.
After completing his trip to Japan, Chairman Chey is likely to head to the United States. He will attend the 'SK Night' event held in Washington DC on the 21st (local time).

During his U.S. trip, Chairman Chey is also highly likely to accompany President Yoon Suk-yeol. The periods of their visits to the U.S. overlap. President Yoon is scheduled to embark on a 5-night, 7-day tour of the UK, the U.S., and Canada starting on the 18th, and will deliver a keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on the 20th. Chairman Chey is expected to continue activities related to the Expo bid and North American business during the President's North American tour.
