'World Heritage Cities Forum' to be Held in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do... June 29-30
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Following last year, the World Heritage Cities Forum will be held again this year in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do.
On the 14th, Suwon City announced that it will hold the '2022 Suwon World Heritage Cities Forum' under the theme of 'Sustainable Utilization of World Heritage Cities' at the Suwon Convention Center from the 29th to the 30th of this month.
This forum was planned to enhance the urban brand value of Suwon City, which leads the field of world heritage, and to explore ways to develop Suwon City's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry.
The forum is hosted by Suwon City and Suwon Convention Center, and supported by the Cultural Heritage Administration, Korea Tourism Organization, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, UNESCO Korea Committee, ICOMOS Korea Committee, and the World Heritage Cities Organization Asia-Pacific Regional Office.
This year's event will be divided into a 'Public Forum' (on the 29th) and an 'Expert Forum' (on the 30th).
The Public Forum will cover stories of world heritage cities creating new attractions by combining with various fields, while the Expert Forum will share cases and policies on the utilization of world heritage in each city.
The forum on the 29th will begin at 1 p.m. with an opening ceremony, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Choi Jae-heon of Konkuk University (on Sustainable World Heritage Cities and Local Communities), and sessions (including presentations and panel discussions) on ▲ World Heritage and Content (Noh Jin-young, broadcast writer) ▲ World Heritage and Fashion (Kim Young-jin, CEO of Chaikim) ▲ World Heritage and Corporate Marketing (Hwang Geum-sik, Head of LG Electronics ID Division).
On the second day, the Expert Forum will be divided into thematic presentations and panel discussions by domestic and international world cultural heritage experts.
In the first session, Randy Durband, CEO of the International Sustainable Tourism Council, will present on 'Cases of Co-development between Cities and Cultural Heritage,' followed by a panel discussion on 'The Coexistence and Importance of Interpretation between Cities and Cultural Heritage' with Robert Piaskowski, Cultural Ambassador of Krakow City, Poland; Kim Ji-hong, Officer of the Cultural Heritage Administration; and Shim Hye-ri, Specialist at the UNESCO World Heritage International Interpretation and Education Center.
In the second session, Ahn Tae-wook, Specialist at the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, will present on 'New Ways to Enjoy Korea's World Heritage,' followed by a panel discussion on 'New Utilization Methods of Cultural Heritage' with Ming Chee Ang, Branch Manager of the Penang George Town World Cultural Heritage Headquarters in Malaysia; Kim Ji-hyun, Senior Specialist at UNESCO; Lee Gwi-young, Director of the Baekje World Heritage Center; and Chae Hee-rak, Deputy Director of the Suwon Cultural Foundation.

A city official stated, "The Suwon World Heritage Cities Forum is a representative international forum nurtured as a regionally specialized MICE project by Suwon City," adding, "It will be a forum that establishes the status of Suwon Special City as a leader in the world heritage field."
