Kim Woong: "The Reason the Democratic Party Abolished the 'Complainant's Right to Appeal' Is to Save Lee Jae-myung"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Woong, a member of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's abolition of the 'complainant's right to appeal' as a move to save Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party.
On the 13th, Kim stated on his social network service (SNS), "In April 2022, the Democratic Party suddenly abolished the 'complainant's right to appeal' while pushing through the so-called 'complete prosecution reform.' This was because of the bribery case involving Lee related to Seongnam FC, which the police sent to prosecution with a recommendation today."
He explained, "Under the Moon Jae-in administration, the police only conducted a written investigation of this case and decided not to indict in September 2021. However, the complainant appealed, forcing a reinvestigation, which ultimately led to the recognition of charges and referral to the prosecution," adding, "If the complainant had not appealed, this case would have been buried like the Burning Sun or real estate speculation cases."
Kim expressed concern that the Democratic Party abolished the complainant's right to appeal to prevent such incidents from recurring, saying, "The problem is that this has caused a huge issue." Crimes against people with disabilities, child sexual crimes, and child abuse cases are difficult for victims to raise directly due to the nature of the incidents, and investigations usually start when third parties or organizations file complaints. However, by abolishing the complainant's right to appeal through the complete prosecution reform, the Democratic Party has made it impossible to raise these issues anymore.
Kim cited the 'Jung-in case' as a representative example where the 'complainant's right to appeal' is necessary. He said, "Even if someone discovers and reports Jung-in's child abuse, if the police close the case, no one can challenge it," and questioned, "Is it acceptable to neglect the countless unjust deaths of children like Jung-in just to save one person, Lee?"

At the end of his post, he tagged '#PeoplePowerParty_also_approved_complete_prosecution_reform_mediation_plan_with_applause,' indirectly criticizing the party leadership that supported the mediation plan at the time and the recent 'applause approval' incident during the transition to the emergency committee.
