Started in 1979 and marking its 43rd edition this year, this traditional competition saw 13,880 participants from 17 cities and provinces nationwide competing in creativity and inquiry. The first-place winner, Lee Ho-seon, received high praise for a contact lens case that allows easy verification of whether the lens is inside out. Users can easily check if the contact lens is reversed when wearing it. In other words, it utilizes the properties of light to easily distinguish the inversion of the lens. The invention was highly evaluated for its completeness, practicality, and economic feasibility.
The second-place winner, Moon Jae-in, presented the 'ABC Clean Cork Water Purifier without Water Droplet Concerns.' This invention was inspired by the hygiene issues caused by water droplets forming at the tip of conventional water purifier corks. By developing three types of clean corks using different scientific principles, it fundamentally blocks potential hygiene problems. Compared to other inventions, it stood out in creativity and inquiry and was highly rated in terms of practicality and economic feasibility.

Winners of the Presidential Award, Prime Minister's Award, and their supervising teachers will be given the opportunity to participate in a science culture exploration trip scheduled for the end of November.
Lee Seok-rae, Director of the National Science Museum, stated, “From the regional preliminaries, many elementary, middle, and high school students concretized their own ideas, and especially inventions that improved inconveniences in daily life with creative ideas stood out.” He added, “I hope many students will use science and technology more in their daily lives based on this competition experience and take greater interest in scientific and technological inventions.”
