View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Jang Kyung-tae, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, referred to President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 13th as a “Minpodae.” He explained the meaning of ‘Minpodae’ as “a president who has given up on people’s livelihood, public sentiment, and democracy.”
On the same day, Jang appeared on a radio show and spoke about the Chuseok public sentiment, saying, “Many residents are worried that the country might collapse like this.” Regarding the push for a special prosecution law on Kim Kun-hee, he stated, “Since President Yoon is a special prosecutor expert, he will not exercise his veto power.”
Jang explained the background of the Democratic Party’s push for the ‘Kim Kun-hee Special Law,’ saying, “(The prosecution and police) are not conducting proper investigations, and since the public wants a fair investigation, ultimately, there is no choice but the special prosecution law.” He added, “The last hurdle in passing the special prosecution law could be President Yoon’s exercise of veto power,” and also said, “(As a prosecutor) he is a remarkable figure who once sought a four-year prison sentence for false academic credentials.”
Regarding Lawmaker Jo Jeong-hoon of the Judiciary Committee being negative about the Kim Kun-hee special prosecution law, Jang said, “Allowing unfair investigations to continue is also an act of condoning it,” and explained, “It seems difficult for him to bear that historical responsibility alone.”
He continued, “Lawmaker Kim Do-eup also knows that it is absolutely impossible for one person, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, to block all 300 members of the legislative body alone,” emphasizing, “In many ways, it can be sufficiently pushed forward.”
