It was revealed that the man committed the crime out of resentment toward his ex-girlfriend who broke up with him after he enlisted.
According to the legal community on the 12th, the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (filming and distribution using a camera, etc.), to 2 years and 6 months in prison. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for 3 years.
Mr. A is accused of posting and distributing videos and photos of sexual intercourse along with personal information of his ex-girlfriend on his Twitter account using a mobile phone in a military barracks in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, on February 28 and March 1 of last year.
It was reported that Mr. A harbored resentment after being notified of the breakup by Ms. B, a woman he had been dating for over two years after enlisting. Mr. A took advantage of the fact that mobile phones could be used in the military barracks on holidays to commit this act, and it was revealed during the trial that he asked other Twitter users to spread the posts.
The victim, Ms. B, petitioned for severe punishment, stating that the posts spreading through Twitter have not been deleted from the web, causing her great mental distress.
The court stated the reason for sentencing, saying, "Compared to other SNS, Twitter has a significantly greater transmission power. This crime socially ostracizes the victim, and the method is very low and despicable. The sentence was determined after considering various circumstances."

Mr. A’s side appealed the first trial verdict. The prosecution also appealed, claiming the sentence was too light. The appeal trial for this case will be held at the Chuncheon District Court.
