View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] Amid heavy rain and flooding damage occurring across the country due to the impact of Typhoon No. 11 'Hinnamnor,' there is a possibility that Typhoon No. 13 'Merbok' may head toward the Korean Peninsula.
The Czech Meteorological Agency's forecast site 'Windy.com' predicted signs of Typhoon Merbok forming.
Merbok is expected to strengthen over the sea south of Japan and approach the waters near Jeju on the 14th after Typhoon No. 12 Muifa dissipates.
Windy.com forecasts that Merbok will move northward along the west coast and sequentially affect the entire Korean Peninsula, including the Seoul metropolitan area, Jeolla Province, and Chungcheong Province.
At the time of landfall on the Korean Peninsula, Merbok's central pressure is expected to be around 986 hPa (hectopascals). The central pressure recorded when Hinnamnor passed Jeju on the 6th was 945 hPa.
However, the GFS model from the U.S. National Weather Service predicts that the typhoon may change direction toward China. Since the typhoon's path is valid for at least four days from the current point, the route may change later.
According to statistics from the Korea Meteorological Administration, typhoons generally concentrate in August and September. This is because the sea surface temperature peaks in autumn, as the ocean warms more slowly than the land.
