Approval of Discussion Agenda and Operational Matters for the Next 6 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 6th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it held the first meeting of the "Police System Development Committee" at the Government Seoul Office to improve the police system for democratic operation and efficient mission performance of the police.
At the first meeting, matters related to the operation of the committee, such as the election of the chairman and the committee operation rules, were decided, along with the agenda to be discussed in the future. Park In-hwan (co-representative of the Barun Society Citizens' Meeting) was elected as the chairman of the Police System Development Committee by a vote among the members.
Additionally, four agenda items to be discussed over the next six months were selected: the autonomous police system, improvement of the Police University, improvement of the National Police Commission, and strengthening the capabilities of field police officers. Also, issues such as increasing salaries to the level of public security officers, the multiple rank system, and measures to strengthen investigative capabilities were to be reviewed through consultations with related ministries and reported to the committee.
Furthermore, to discuss institutional improvements related to the autonomous police system, which is being promoted as a national agenda, it was decided to establish an "Autonomous Police Subcommittee," with the composition of members and discussion topics to be determined at the next meeting.
