Marine Corps Rescues 27 Pohang Citizens Braving Typhoon
Deployment of 2 Amphibious Armored Vehicles and 17 Rubber Boats
The Marine Corps rescued 27 flood victims in the Pohang area, which was hit hard by Typhoon 'Hinnamnor'. The Marine Corps announced on the 6th that they conducted a search and rescue operation and rescued 27 residents from the flood-affected area as of 4 p.m.
The 1st Marine Division deployed two KAAVs (Korean Amphibious Assault Vehicles) and 17 inflatable boats (IBS) to the severely flooded Cheongnim-dong area in Pohang City to carry out the rescue operation.
Residents who had taken refuge on rooftops were transported to safe locations by IBS, and KAAVs were active in areas difficult to access due to flooding. They also transported firefighters who had difficulty entering the origin point of the POSCO fire by placing them on KAAVs.

The 1st Marine Division deployed about 1,300 personnel, 59 vehicles, 11 IBS, and 6 pumps to Donghae-myeon, Daesong-myeon, Ocheon-eup, and Cheongnim-dong areas of Pohang City to conduct recovery operations such as debris removal and drainage work.
