The Three Major Telecom Companies Launch Relief and Recovery Efforts in Typhoon 'Hinnamnor' Affected Areas

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The three major mobile carriers have launched support efforts for residents and restoration of wired and wireless communications in areas affected by Typhoon Hinnamnor.
SK Telecom and LG Uplus announced on the 6th that they began support activities at the multipurpose welfare center shelter in Daesong-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
About 170 residents affected by the typhoon are staying at the shelter.
SKT and SK Broadband are providing free smartphone charging booths, Internet TV (IPTV), and Wi-Fi facilities at the Daesong-myeon shelter. They delivered relief supplies consisting of towels, toiletries, masks, tissues, gloves, and emergency medicines, and their mobile AS vehicles offer free device inspections and screen protector replacements. Additional support measures will be prepared according to the local damage situation.
An SKT official stated, "We have established a hotline system with temporary shelters in collaboration with disaster response headquarters in areas nationwide affected by heavy rain and strong winds, and have pre-positioned vehicles for charging services and mobile AS as well as emergency relief supplies."
LG Uplus provided free mobile phone charging and Wi-Fi services at the shelter in cooperation with the Korean Red Cross.
Earlier, LG Uplus signed an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategic partnership with the Korean Red Cross to cooperate on disaster response and social safety net building activities. Based on this, they operate a nationwide rapid disaster relief response system.
KT deployed 21 power generators to the heavily damaged areas of Masan, Jinju, and Yeocheon due to the typhoon. One mobile base station was urgently deployed in Ulju. They are operating and standing by with 248 water pumps at lowland stations, and have dispatched 32 field experts for emergency restoration in island areas.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, as of 12 noon on the day, 305,986 wired and wireless communication and paid broadcasting lines were damaged by the typhoon, and about 84% (257,091 lines) have been restored by deploying emergency repair teams.
