US Sells Weapons Worth 1.5 Trillion Won to Taiwan... China "Strongly Condemns"

View original imageChina expressed its "firm opposition and strong condemnation" on the 5th regarding the United States' decision to sell an additional $1.1 billion (approximately 1.5 trillion KRW) worth of weapons to Taiwan.
Mao Ning, the newly appointed spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing that "we will take resolute and strong measures to firmly safeguard our sovereignty and security interests."
He pointed out that the U.S. weapon sales to Taiwan violate the "One China" principle and the three joint communiqu?s between the two countries (key agreements in U.S.-China relations), sending the wrong signal to Taiwan independence and separatist forces.
He urged the U.S. to stop arms sales to Taiwan and actions that escalate tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
Earlier, on the 2nd (local time), the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) under the U.S. Department of Defense announced that the State Department had approved a plan to export $1.1 billion worth of weapons to Taiwan.

The sales list included 60 AGM-84L Harpoon Block II anti-ship missiles worth $355 million and 100 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder air-to-air missiles valued at $85.6 million.
