Ministry of Environment: "Securing Capacity to Prevent Dam Discharge Even with 270~600mm Rainfall"
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The Ministry of Environment announced on the 4th that it has secured 6 billion tons of flood control capacity in 20 multipurpose dams nationwide in preparation for the northward approach of Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon of the season.
The Ministry of Environment explained that this capacity is enough to store water without dam discharge even if an average of 270 to 600 mm of rain falls by watershed.
It is expected that 100 to 300 mm of rain will fall nationwide by the 6th. More than 600 mm of rain is expected in the mountainous areas of Jeju, and more than 400 mm in northern Gyeonggi, northwestern Gangwon Yeongseo, the southern coast, the eastern coast of Gyeongsang, Jeju (excluding mountainous areas), near Jirisan, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
The Ministry of Environment also announced that from 5 p.m. on the 4th, access to 505 trails, 42 campsites, and 17 shelters in 20 national parks excluding Bukhansan National Park will be restricted.
