Nine Drowned While Crossing Texas River Attempting Illegal Entry into the U.S.
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] Nine migrants attempting to enter the United States drowned while trying to cross a river near the Texas border area.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Mexican authorities announced on the 3rd (local time) that they recovered nine bodies near the Rio Grande River in Texas, which had swollen due to heavy rain. Authorities found six drowned victims and rescued 37 people from the river, transporting them to detention facilities.
The Mexican side confirmed three additional bodies and apprehended 39 migrants attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. The victims drowned after being swept away by the swollen waters while trying to cross the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass, a southern border city in Texas. The U.S. National Weather Service reported that the river's depth increased from 90 cm to 1.5 m due to recent rainfall, and the current was five times faster than usual.

According to the U.S. Border Patrol, migrants have been illegally crossing through the Del Rio sector, which stretches 395 km along the Rio Grande River. From October last year to July this year, over 200 migrants were found dead in this area.
