"Ranked 3rd in Purchase Preference for 'I Will Buy Apple Car'... Higher Than Tesla Even Before Release"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Even though the Apple electric car (Apple Car) has not yet been released to the market, it has been revealed that consumers have a high preference for purchasing the Apple Car.
According to the results announced on the 2nd (local time) by global marketing company Strategy Vision, which recently surveyed 200,000 people who purchased new cars in the United States about their preferences for 45 car brands worldwide, the Apple Car quickly ranked 3rd.
According to the car brand purchase preference survey results, 26% of respondents (multiple responses allowed) chose the Apple Car, placing it 3rd behind Japan's Toyota (38%) and Honda (32%). It was preferred over the American Ford (21%) as well as Tesla (20%).
In particular, more than 50% of Tesla owners responded that they would "definitely consider" purchasing an Apple Car in the future.
The Apple Car also scored the highest with a combined 50% of respondents saying they would "definitely consider" future purchase (26%) and that they have a "good impression of the quality" (24%).
However, since the car has not yet been produced, 34% of respondents said they "do not know enough" about what kind of product the Apple Car is, which amounts to about one in three people.
Meanwhile, following reports that key personnel in the Apple Car project, including a Tesla autonomous driving software expert who joined Apple last year, have been leaving the company, Apple CEO Tim Cook has also announced that he will step down from Apple management within 10 years.
At that time, Bloomberg reported that almost all key personnel of the Apple Car project had left the company over the past two years, and that Apple is recruiting new talent from companies such as Ford and Rivian to fill the gaps.
CEO Cook hinted at Apple Car development in a podcast last year. While avoiding specific mentions, he suggested that internal research on Apple Car development is underway.
He stated, "Autonomous driving is the core technology. If you take a step back and look, a car is similar to a robot. An autonomous vehicle is a robot. There are many things that can be done with autonomous driving." However, he avoided specific comments on whether Apple is preparing to manufacture cars or related technologies.
