Not Pokemon Bread, but Jjanggu!
Four Products Featuring Jjanggu, Real Reviews
The character merchandise craze sparked by Pok?mon bread shows no signs of fading. Products featuring Pok?mon characters continue to be released, and collaborations with other popular characters like Digimon and MapleStory are actively taking place. Among them, products featuring Jjangu, who is loved by people of all ages for his quirky charm, stand out, so we gathered them in one place. If you’re curious about the taste of these items, which were only available at convenience stores, and which characters appeared on the Ttibu seals, scroll down to check them out.
Jjangu 21-Grain Choco Bar
The first product I tried was the Jjangu 21-Grain Choco Bar. It can be purchased at GS25, CU, and 7-Eleven, priced at 700 won. The Ttibu seal is not included. The packaging resembles Chocobi, the snack Jjangu often enjoyed in the cartoon. It is a cereal made from mung beans, job’s tears, and other grains, coated with chocolate. The texture and taste are completely different from nut-filled chocolate bars. It’s not dense but breaks lightly like a snack. It tastes like crunchy chocolate with the nutty flavor unique to grain cereals. The sweetness is not very strong.
Editor’s rating ★★★★☆ / A good choco bar to eat one in the morning. The size is a bit small, which is a downside, but considering the price, it’s forgivable.
Chocobi Ice Cream Strawberry Flavor
The Chocobi ice cream had a rich chocolate flavor. Upon hearing that a strawberry flavor was newly released, I quickly added it to my shopping cart. The Chocobi Ice Cream Strawberry Flavor can be purchased at CU convenience stores and costs 12,400 won, which is somewhat expensive. Like the choco bar, the Ttibu seal is not included. The taste is rather ordinary for the price. It has a soft sweetness reminiscent of strawberry milk. It’s appealing that it doesn’t taste artificially strawberry-flavored and contains strawberry pulp.
Editor’s rating ★★★☆☆ / The strawberry ice cream flavor we all know. Not a cost-effective product.
Unstoppable Jjangu Jelly
The Jjangu jelly, available at GS25 for 1,800 won, comes with Ttibu seals included inside the bag along with yogurt-shaped jellies. The packaging is a zipper bag, so it can be closed and stored. The jellies come in cola and cider flavors, tasting like carbonated drinks with a tangy apple yogurt twist. The texture is chewy and slightly firm rather than soft. There are a total of 91 types of Ttibu seals, randomly included one per pack. I hoped for Maenggu to appear, but I got the principal’s Ttibu seal instead. It’s not easy after all...☆
Editor’s rating ★★★☆☆ / If you enjoy jelly, you’ll like this flavor. But now with Ttibu seals included!
Action Mask Ramen
The last product I tried was the Action Mask Ramen sold at CU. It costs 4,900 won. The Ttibu seal is under the paper packaging, and the plastic container holds the noodles, soup, seaweed, etc. The taste is similar to tonkotsu ramen but the broth is not very rich. It was disappointing that the meat toppings and broth were salty enough that you need to add more water than the recommended amount, and that the liquid soup is not in a separate packet but under the noodles, so you can’t adjust the amount.
Editor’s rating ★★☆☆☆ / Ttibu seal is GOOD, but the overly salty ramen is NG.
