Goheung-gun, The 20th Nokdong Sea Fireworks Festival Held

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the representative local festival, the ‘Nokdong Sea Fireworks Festival,’ will be held from the 1st to the 4th for four days at the Nokdong Harbor area in Doyang-eup under the theme ‘20 Years of Memories, Fireworks of Hope.’

Hosted and organized by the Nokdong Junior Chamber (President Kim Jong-hoon), the Nokdong Sea Fireworks Festival began as an event to share the sorrows of Hansen’s disease patients and the pain of Sorokdo Island, and has played a significant role in promoting the taste and charm of Goheung and revitalizing the local economy through the festival. After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19, it is being held again.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival, making its significance even greater.

The festival is held to provide a healing time in clean Goheung, Nokdong, to escape from the daily life exhausted by COVID-19. It features abundant performances such as a drone show and fireworks show, as well as various experiential events, raising great expectations.

On the first day of the festival, the 1st (Thursday), the opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m., followed by a drone show and opening celebration show over the Nokdong Sea Garden from 8 p.m. Invited singers include Yang Ji-won, Han Dam-hee, and So Yu-mi.

On the second day, the 2nd (Friday), starting at 5 p.m., lively performances by local groups and the Goheung resident art troupe will begin, and at 8 p.m., the preliminary round of the Nokdong Sea Fireworks Song Festival will take place.

On the weekend, the 3rd and 4th, a grand festival event in cooperation with the Goheung County Fisheries Cooperative will offer fun experiential activities such as barehanded fish catching, Nokdong taste tasting sessions, and water wrestling competitions, along with busking and a youth talent festival, providing a variety of entertainment.

Especially on the last day of the festival, the 4th, the closing ceremony celebration will feature a performance by Jang Min-ho, the handsome star of the trot music scene, followed by a fireworks show to conclude the event.

A county official said, “In Goheung, which aims to leap forward as a space aviation-centered city and a drone-centered city, we hope that the drone show and fireworks show, the highlights of this Nokdong Sea Fireworks Festival, will become a signal flare symbolizing the hopeful future of Goheung.”

Goheung-gun stated, “We plan to open the era of 10 million tourists in Goheung by building differentiated competitiveness from other local governments based on various tourism resources and establishing specialized tourism infrastructure.”
