Temporary Suspension of Vehicle Registration Plate Seizure... Gyeongbuk Province Allows for Vehicles Used for Livelihood Purposes
Mobile Guide for Application of Detention Fact and Release Date
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Gyeongbuk Province will return vehicle license plates and temporarily lift their seizure if small business owners who had their plates seized due to unpaid automobile taxes are recognized as having difficulty maintaining their livelihood.
Mayors and county governors may refuse to issue the vehicle registration certificate or seize the vehicle's license plates if the taxpayer fails to fulfill their automobile tax payment obligations.
However, if the overdue automobile tax is paid, the seized vehicle license plates are immediately returned.
There are about 1,000 vehicle license plates currently held by city and county offices due to unpaid automobile taxes after seizure.
Accordingly, Gyeongbuk Province is conducting fact-finding investigations and strengthening enforcement measures such as forced vehicle towing for defaulters who have the ability to pay but have not settled their overdue taxes, and is encouraging deregistration of aged vehicles.
Additionally, city and county offices are informing taxpayers whose vehicle license plates are held via mobile KakaoTalk that if they use the vehicle directly for livelihood purposes and face difficulties due to the seizure, they can apply for release of the seizure by submitting an application form and supporting documents.
