Goheung Space Astronomy Science Museum, Special Operation During Chuseok Holiday
Experience and Observe the Mysteries of the Universe Vividly
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it will operate the Goheung Space Astronomy Science Center normally during the Chuseok holiday from the 9th to the 12th and provide special programs in celebration of the nation's biggest traditional holiday, Chuseok.
Every year, the number of family tourists who want to view the full moon of Hangawi through a telescope and welcome the moon increases, so this Chuseok holiday, the Goheung Astronomy Science Center will operate normally.
During Chuseok Hangawi, it is possible to observe the bright full moon around the 15th day of the lunar calendar. Although the bright moon makes it difficult to observe the Milky Way or many stars, it is a good time to observe Saturn, allowing simultaneous viewing of the moon and Saturn.
During the Chuseok holiday, the Astronomy Science Center plans to support telescopes and equipment so that visitors returning to their hometowns and tourists can take pictures of the Hangawi full moon directly with their mobile phone cameras. During the special daytime operation period, special programs such as making solar system models, sundials, and telescopes will also be provided.
An official from the Astronomy Science Center said, “Since celestial observation depends on weather conditions, it is recommended to check the weather before visiting, and because of the temperature difference between day and night, visitors are advised to bring long-sleeved clothes for nighttime celestial observation.”
Meanwhile, the Goheung Space Astronomy Science Center has one of the largest 800mm reflecting telescopes in Korea and a dome theater, allowing visitors to vividly observe and experience the mysteries of the universe.
