Personalized News Subscription Every Morning... LG Uplus Launches 'U+News'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 30th that it has partnered with the global discovery platform ‘Taboola’ to launch the ‘U+ News’ service, which provides major news every morning reflecting customers' interests.
U+ News is a subscription service that offers data-driven personalized news content in the form of ‘Smart Push’ every weekday morning to its mobile customers. Unlike the general ‘push’ service sent to all customers, Smart Push is a customized notification message sent only to targeted customers through data analysis. This allows customers to actively consume news.
According to LG Uplus’s own survey, the content most frequently used by customers on portal sites, aside from the ‘search’ function, is ‘news.’ About 80% of news users also use other channels besides portal sites.
LG Uplus explained that it judged customers who enjoy news to have a relatively high acceptance of new media, and planned a data-driven news recommendation service incorporating the Smart Push function to intensively expose only content with high customer interest.
Customers who wish to subscribe can directly access the U+ News site or move to the U+ News site through a service guide text message sent to mobile customers who have agreed to marketing, and apply for free.
In the future, LG Uplus plans not only to continuously enhance personalized recommendation functions by building a big data model that predicts customer interests but also to provide premium content exclusively for U+ News subscribers through collaboration with high-quality magazines and others.
Meanwhile, LG Uplus has partnered with the global discovery platform ‘Taboola,’ which recommends customized content reflecting customers' interests and preferences for the U+ News service. Taboola provides ‘Taboola News,’ a service that composes customer-tailored news feeds through partnerships with major domestic and international media outlets and offers them to client companies.
The signing ceremony was held on the 29th at LG Uplus’s Yongsan headquarters, attended by key figures including Kim Tae-hoon, Head of LG Uplus Advertising Business Division (Executive Director), and Lee Young, CEO of Taboola Korea.
