970 Excellent Local Specialty Products Direct Market to Open at Seoul Plaza... Up to 30% Off
Various Events Including Pungmulpae Street Parade and Tightrope Walking Performances, Rice Cake Pounding and Traditional Sauce Making, Jegichagi and Tuho Games Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] To celebrate Chuseok, the largest direct transaction market in the country, where premium local specialties such as Yeonggwang Gulbi, Geumsan Ginseng, and Korean beef can be purchased at prices up to 30% cheaper than market prices, will be held for three days from October 5 to 7 at Seoul Plaza.
According to Seoul City on the 30th, at the ‘Chuseok Agricultural and Marine Specialties Seoul Market’ held for three days at Seoul Plaza, visitors can find about 970 items of agricultural and marine specialties certified by 95 cities and counties nationwide and the NongHyup in one place, and purchase representative local specialties at prices 10-30% lower than market prices.
The Seoul Market will open at 2 p.m. on the 5th and operate until 7 p.m. On the 6th and 7th, it will operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Every day, a special Korean beef truck will be stationed on the east side of Seoul Plaza to sell representative Korean beef from each province at prices up to 30% cheaper than market prices. Seoul City plans to provide information on items and prices in advance and operate a ‘Seoul Market website’ to promote continuous purchases even after the event.
The Chuseok Agricultural and Marine Specialties Seoul Market is held as an ‘event for exchange and coexistence between Seoul and regions,’ providing citizens with the opportunity to purchase high-quality agricultural and marine specialties and ceremonial items at affordable prices, and opening a direct sales venue for producers. The Chuseok Agricultural and Marine Specialties Seoul Market has been held since 2009 but was held online in 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19 and was canceled in 2021.
A courier service will be operated to deliver goods purchased at the market for the convenience of citizens. However, since the Chuseok holiday begins on September 9, two days after the market ends, delivery will start after the Chuseok holiday (September 9-12) due to excessive holiday logistics issues.
Meanwhile, at Seoul Plaza, various enjoyable activities that anyone can participate in, such as rice cake pounding, traditional jang (fermented sauce) making experience, and games like jegichagi, top spinning, and tuho, will be offered for three days to fully enjoy the Chuseok market atmosphere. On the 5th, there will be a pungmul band street parade performance, and on the 6th and 7th, tightrope walking performances will be held. During the three days of the event, ‘Corner-to-Corner Live Performances’ will be conducted so that citizens can enjoy street performances, creating a lively Chuseok Seoul Market.
