View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City sent a delegation of 15 members led by Nam-gu District Mayor An Seung-do to visit Ulleungdo from the 27th for a three-day schedule to celebrate the 20th Ulleungdo Squid Festival and to promote Pohang’s Light Festival and local specialties.
This 20th Ulleungdo Squid Festival, held for the first time in three years since its suspension in 2019 due to COVID-19, began at Jeodong Port in Ulleungdo and welcomed tourists with various programs to cool off the lingering summer heat.
On the first day of the festival, as a representative of a sister city, the city participated in the opening ceremony, distributing promotional materials introducing Pohang’s representative festival, the Pohang International Light Festival, and major tourist attractions to many visitors at the festival site, while also operating a Pohang promotional booth to showcase local agricultural and specialty products.
Members of the Jaepo Ulleung Hometown Association also joined the delegation to support their hometown, Ulleung County, drawing attention for their enthusiastic participation.
On the last day of the festival, Nam-gu District Mayor An Seung-do, representing Pohang City, discussed active mutual exchange plans between Pohang and Ulleung with Namhan-gwon Ulleung County Mayor, and they agreed to explore ways to assist major projects promoted by Ulleung County in Pohang to create synergistic effects.

Pohang City and Ulleung County signed the “Pohang-Ulleung Joint Development Agreement” at Ulleung County Office on June 18, 2007, and have continuously dispatched delegations to each other’s festivals and events. They have also maintained active exchanges as sister cities by delivering encouragement supplies during heavy snowfalls or disasters in Ulleung County, strengthening their friendship.
