Gwangju Buk-gu Operates School Meal Support Center to Ensure Safe Food Supplies
School Meal Support Center Established in Hyoryeong-dong... Full Operation Starting Next Month
Serving 181 Kindergartens, Elementary, Middle, High, and Special Schools with 55,202 Students
Ensuring Food Safety with Locally Sourced High-Quality Eco-Friendly Ingredients
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City has established a safe and sustainable school meal ingredient supply system to realize food welfare for students in the district.
Buk-gu announced on the 29th that it will create a 'School Meal Support Center' to ensure a stable supply of high-quality meal ingredients to kindergartens and schools in the district, and will operate it starting September 1.
The School Meal Support Center, located in Hyoryeong-dong, Buk-gu (at the entrance of Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town), is equipped with offices and refrigerated storage, and 21 farms, 8 eco-friendly agricultural product suppliers, and 4 regional delivery companies have agreed to participate.
Accordingly, Buk-gu plans to provide quality ingredients starting next month to 65 local kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools that applied through a demand survey conducted in July.
The School Meal Support Center is directly operated by Buk-gu for all operations except for the distribution function outsourcing. Schools wishing to receive ingredient supply prepare menus and submit them to the center, which then provides safe food accordingly.
Director Moon In said, "Through the operation of this School Meal Support Center, we expect to improve the quality of meal ingredients and achieve a win-win effect between urban and rural areas by opening new markets for farms," adding, "We will actively support the center to fulfill its responsibilities and roles well."
Meanwhile, Buk-gu plans to hold an opening ceremony for the 'School Meal Support Center' on the 14th of next month, with participation from city and district council members, related organizations, and local residents.
