Kwon Seong-dong Unanimously Appointed Acting Chairman of Emergency Committee... "Will Decide Position Personally" (Comprehensive)
Indication of Resignation After Launch of 'New Emergency Committee'
Emergency Committee Members Decide Not to Resign
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader who has been under continuous 'resignation pressure' within the party, stated on the 29th, "I will decide my position after the launch of the new emergency committee." The emergency committee members unanimously decided to appoint Kwon as the acting chairman of the emergency committee.
Park Jeong-ha, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, said to reporters after the emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "After gathering the opinions of the emergency committee members, it was unanimously agreed that Floor Leader Kwon will serve as the acting chairman of the emergency committee and lead the committee until the new emergency committee is launched."
Spokesperson Park explained the reason for appointing him as acting chairman, saying, "There are unavoidable tasks that can only be done if there is a party leader according to the party's constitution and regulations in this emergency situation. Someone needs to lead the emergency committee proactively."
Spokesperson Park said, "The secretariat reported on the future procedures for revising the party constitution and regulations and the process of forming the new emergency committee," adding, "Even if expedited physically, it will take a considerable amount of time, and the procedures will be completed after one or two meetings of the Standing National Committee and about two meetings of the National Committee."
With less than two weeks left until Chuseok, the plan is to launch the new emergency committee before the holiday as much as possible. Spokesperson Park emphasized, "All procedures will be completed before Chuseok. Although it is physically tight, we will expedite it as much as possible."
He also firmly stated that there would be no resignations from the emergency committee members. Spokesperson Park said, "If all members resign now, there will be no one to make decisions or lead the current emergency situation," adding, "We agreed to carry out our responsibilities until the new emergency committee is launched."
Earlier, there were reports that emergency committee member Eom Tae-young would resign, but Spokesperson Park said, "That was a remark made during the reporting process," and added, "All emergency committee members agreed to unite their efforts until this situation is resolved."
