272 Public Museums to Undergo Evaluation and Certification Starting Next Month
Checking Efforts and Achievements in Responding to Contactless Environments
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will conduct evaluation and certification for 272 public museums starting next month. The assessment will examine whether museums faithfully perform their basic functions such as exhibitions, education, collection, and research, and whether their organization, personnel, facilities, and finances are managed effectively and efficiently based on various indicators.
The categories include achievement of establishment objectives, appropriateness of organization, personnel, facilities, and financial management, thoroughness of collection and management of materials, performance in hosting exhibitions and conducting educational programs, and public responsibility. Efforts and achievements in operating under the new contactless environment will also be newly added to the evaluation.

A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official explained, “Starting with a document review next month, on-site evaluations will be conducted until November, and the final results will be announced in December. Certified museums will receive a certificate valid for three years.” The official added, “We plan to improve related procedures to share the results widely with local governments for broader utilization,” and “In the first half of next year, a training session involving local government officials and museum staff will be organized to share best practices and discuss various improvement tasks together.”
