The 16th Kim Yu-jeong Literary Award Goes to Gu Byeong-mo... Winning Work is the Novel 'Ninikorachiupunta'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] Novelist Gu Byeong-mo (46) has been selected as the winner of the 16th Kim Yu-jeong Literary Award, the Kim Yu-jeong Memorial Association announced on the 28th. The winning work is the short story "Ninikorachiupunta" (Consonant and Vowel 2022 Summer Issue). The prize money is 10 million won.
The judging committee evaluated, "The novel, set in the near future about 40 years from now, does not lose its sharp sense of reality in recalling the dark realities of dementia and caregiving in our society."
Gu Byeong-mo said, "While writing with despair, I tried to arrange humorous statements and situations by employing irony and paradox."
Gu Byeong-mo debuted in 2008 with the Changbi Youth Literature Award. His major works include the short story collection "The Only Sentence," and the novels "Agami" and "Your Neighbor's Table." He has received awards such as the Today's Writer Award.
Previous winners of the Kim Yu-jeong Literary Award include Choi Su-cheol, Lee In-seong, Park Hyeong-seo, Han Kang, and Pyun Hye-young.

The award ceremony will be held on the 16th of next month at the Sky Hall, Sky Convention, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
