Gangwon-do, All Residues in Eggs from Laying Hen Farms 'All Suitable'
Free Additional Testing of 17 Synthetic Antimicrobial Agents
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gangwon-do Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory announced on the 28th that the results of the "Intensive Residue Inspection of Laying Hens' Eggs (89 farms) in the province conducted from May to August this year" confirmed that all farms were "suitable."
The province plans to provide guidance to more than 20 farms where residues were detected below the permissible limits to prevent contamination caused by improper feed management.
For laying hen farms, 17 types of synthetic antimicrobials will be additionally tested free of charge during egg safety inspections, and mandatory legal inspections will be conducted to reduce the economic burden on farmers.
The number of harmful residue test items (from 70 to 81 types) is also increasing annually, strengthening safety inspections for residues during production, shipment, and distribution processes.
Since the pesticide egg scandal in 2017, the province has reinforced its inspection system by investing 2.3 billion KRW to purchase state-of-the-art residue analysis equipment such as GC-MS/MS (pesticide residue analysis equipment).
