A Company Saving Paper Equivalent to Three Times Seoraksan Mountain Every Year, How?
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] There is a company leading ESG management by reducing the use of paper resources. The annual reduction in paper usage is about 55.4 million sheets. If stacked, this would reach a height of 5,263 meters, which is 3.1 times the height of Seoraksan Mountain (1,708m). This is SK Telecom.
According to SKT on the 27th, since October last year, the company has replaced paper receipts with mobile receipts when customers pay their bills directly at agencies and branches. The expected annual social value of the mobile receipt service is 35.64 million KRW. The number of receipts saved is 18 million, weighing 81 tons. By switching to mobile receipts and reducing paper use, approximately 1,377 thirty-year-old trees can be protected annually, and about 51.84 tons of greenhouse gases can be reduced.
SKT has been providing email receipt services to customers who pay bills through the customer center since October 2011. Over the past decade, by issuing electronic receipts and bills to replace paper and mail, SKT has analyzed that it has reduced a total of about 6,600 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and protected approximately 170,000 thirty-year-old trees, achieving ESG management effects.
In January this year, SKT, along with other telecom companies, jointly launched the 'Certified Notification Message' service. This service is a mobile electronic notification service that converts paper postal notices and announcements sent by public and private institutions into electronic documents and sends them via text message. The social value created by SKT through the Certified Notification Message service from January to July is 42.179393 million KRW. The amount of paper saved is about 21.34 million sheets, weighing an impressive 96 tons.
The ‘Dividend Information’ that was sent by mail to shareholders has also been replaced with an online service. The expected annual social value created by the online dividend inquiry service is 3.251947 million KRW. The amount of paper saved is 7.41 tons, which is estimated to protect about 126 thirty-year-old trees and reduce approximately 4.27 tons of greenhouse gases.
