“The More You Walk, the Bigger the Donation!” … Gyeongbuk Province Launches Nation’s First ‘Ttubok-i App’ Campaign: 1 Billion Steps = 30,000 Trees Donation Drive
Health Promotion, Carbon Reduction, and Uljin Wildfire Damage Recovery Through Step Donation: Three Benefits in One
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 26th, Gyeongbuk Province held the "10 Billion Steps 30,000 Trees Donation Campaign" event at the Dongnak Hall of the provincial government office, attended by over 300 leaders of local volunteer organizations and volunteer-related personnel.
The Ttubok-i app is the first step-donation platform developed by the Gyeongbuk Volunteer Center among local governments nationwide. It measures the number of steps taken by mobile phone users and allows them to donate those steps through the application.
This structure enables donations through walking for health rather than monetary or in-kind contributions, allowing anyone to participate in volunteering.
The province organized this event with the intention of creating a nationwide participation program using the Ttubok-i app to restore the forests of Uljin, which suffered great damage from a large wildfire last March.
At the event, key guests and all participants walked together, and as the number of steps increased, a performance was held where the devastated appearance of the Uljin wildfire damage area transformed back into a lush forest, receiving great response from all participants.
Anyone wishing to participate in the donation campaign can install the Ttubok-i app and walk. The number of steps is automatically measured through the app, and participants donate by pressing the donation button with the measured steps.
When the donors' combined 10 billion steps are reached, a socially responsible company will support the cost of restoring the forests damaged by the Uljin wildfire, and with that support fund, 30,000 trees can be planted in the wildfire-affected area.
The province plans to develop and expand various volunteer projects that the entire nation can participate in through continuous support starting with this donation campaign.
Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "Using Ttubok-i, the first step-donation platform among local governments nationwide, anyone can easily and enjoyably participate in donations and volunteer activities. Walking promotes health, reduces carbon emissions, and helps restore wildfire damage, achieving a triple effect. We hope for the active participation of the entire nation so that the 10 billion steps can be achieved early. The province will open a new chapter in volunteering through the Ttubok-i app."
