Kim Dong-yeon: "We will prevent a second Suwon Samonyeo incident"... Hotline disclosed
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon on the 25th unveiled a hotline (010-4419-7722) to support residents in difficult situations who are in welfare blind spots. He also actively plans to expand the 'Honorary Social Welfare Officer' program to help identify and support those in need.
On the same day, Governor Kim posted on Facebook, "To ensure that incidents like the Suwon three mothers case never happen again, we first created a 'hotline,'" adding, "I earnestly ask those who are truly struggling at the end of their rope in life to contact us."
He continued, "Both calls and texts are welcome through the hotline," and added, "Although I cannot personally respond, our specially designated staff will do their utmost to take care of you."
He further stated, "In fact, there is the '120 Gyeonggi Province Call Center' where residents can receive counseling on any matter," emphasizing, "We will establish a system by right after Chuseok to carefully monitor those in situations similar to the Suwon three mothers case through this number."
He also requested, "The issue of welfare blind spots cannot be solved by public power alone; the community must work together. Even if you are not the person involved, if you know someone in a desperate situation around you, please contact the hotline or the 120 number."
Governor Kim also promised to expand the Honorary Social Welfare Officer program.
He said, "We will expand the existing 'Honorary Social Welfare Officer' program and provide greater incentives," and requested, "We ask for active participation from churches, temples, pharmacies, real estate agencies, neighborhood stores, and others who have relatively more opportunities to encounter people in desperate situations."
The Honorary Social Welfare Officer program was introduced in response to the 2018 Jeungpyeong mother and daughter and Gumi father and son death incidents to identify households at risk in welfare blind spots. There are currently 38,078 people in the province involved, including council members, welfare community leaders, eup/myeon/dong institutions, workers in daily life industries, and local residents.
