[Muan=Asia Economy, Honam Bureau, reporter Yoon Jamin] South Jeolla Province participated in the ‘2022 A FARM SHOW: Start-up Farming, Returning to Farming, Hometown Love Expo’ (A Farm Show) to attract new residents and returnees to farming and rural areas.
Now in its ninth year, the A Farm Show is being held for three days until August 26 at the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT Center) Exhibition and Convention Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul, under the theme “Smart Agriculture with Youth: Creating Future Jobs through AgTech.”
The event featured participation from 76 local governments and agriculture-related companies, providing valuable information and consultations to young people and prospective returnees preparing to start farming, helping them discover new opportunities and value in rural areas.
The opening day was attended by President Yoon Suk-yeol, South Jeolla Governor Kim Yung-rok, North Jeolla Governor Kim Kwan-young, Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Chung Hwang-keun, among others.
President Yoon and Governor Kim visited the South Jeolla promotional booth to offer their encouragement.
South Jeolla Province participated in the expo together with 13 cities and counties (Yeosu, Suncheon, Naju, Damyang, Gurye, Goheung, Hwasun, Haenam, Gangjin, Yeonggwang, Jangseong, Wando, and Sinan), conducting a variety of promotional activities targeting young and middle-aged people in the Seoul metropolitan area, including explanations of policies for returning to farming and rural living and personalized consultations.
Governor Kim stated, “Every year, about 40,000 city residents (56% of whom are young people) move to South Jeolla. We will develop detailed policies to help returnees to farming and fishing communities settle stably, and create a vibrant South Jeolla.”
Since 2020, South Jeolla Province has been operating the Jeollanam-do Return to Farming, Fishing, and Rural Comprehensive Support Seoul Center to provide tailored information and consultation services to prospective returnees in the Seoul metropolitan area who are preparing to move to farming and rural communities.
