Appointment of Professor Kim Jong-seok as the First Private Chairman of the Regulatory Reform Committee under the Yoon Administration
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed Professor Kim Jong-seok, Chair Professor at Korea New York State University, as the first private chairman of the Regulatory Reform Committee under the new administration on the 24th.
Chairman Kim will serve a two-year term as the private chairman starting from this day. He has previously served as the private chairman of the Policy Evaluation Committee of the Fair Trade Commission, president of the Korea Economic Research Institute, president of the Yeouido Institute, and was a member of the 20th National Assembly.
He has also held positions such as president of the Korean Society for Regulatory Studies (2004?2005) and chairman of the Economic Subcommittee of the Regulatory Reform Committee (2014), where he researched and proposed directions and tasks for regulatory reform and was responsible for regulatory review and maintenance.
The Office for Government Policy Coordination stated, "As the first private chairman of the Regulatory Reform Committee under the new administration, Chairman Kim is expected to contribute to enhancing the committee’s expertise and demonstrate outstanding leadership in government regulatory innovation based on his high level of expertise, experience, and insight in the field of regulatory innovation."

The Regulatory Reform Committee was established under the President in April 1998 following the enactment of the Administrative Regulatory Basic Act in August 1997. It performs functions such as reviewing newly established or strengthened regulations, maintaining existing regulations, and deliberating and coordinating various regulatory policies.
