Prosecutors Summon Businessman for Providing Political Funds to Former Democratic Party Deputy Secretary-General
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution investigating allegations of illegal political funds received by Lee Mo (60), former Deputy Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Korea, summoned and questioned a businessman who claimed to have handed over money to Lee.
According to the legal community on the 24th, the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-chul) summoned businessman Park Mo as a witness for questioning.
Park claims to have given Lee tens of millions of won worth of money over a period of more than three years since 2019. It is reported that he testified that Lee emphasized his close ties with key figures in the Democratic Party and the previous administration's Blue House, acted as if he would fulfill requests, and received money in return.
The prosecution conducted a search and seizure of Lee's residence and office on the 18th, securing mobile phones, computer hard disks, and other items. They also tracked accounts under Lee's name to examine the flow of funds exchanged with Park and others. On the 22nd, digital forensic work was carried out on the seized items in the presence of Lee and his attorney.
