1.2 Billion KRW Budget Savings... Ulsan Office of Education Finally Selected for Electric Vehicle Charging Facility Contest
Establishment of Charging Infrastructure within Educational Institutions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The public-private partnership project to establish electric vehicle charging facilities in schools by the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education, the first of its kind to be implemented nationwide by city and provincial education offices, is progressing smoothly.
In July, the Ulsan Office of Education jointly applied with Daeyeong Chaebi for the Ministry of Environment subsidy support project and was finally selected as a project support recipient on the 22nd.
The project involves installing 143 slow electric vehicle charging stations at 107 schools in the Ulsan area by the end of this year. The private company Daeyeong Chaebi will invest about 1 billion KRW, and an additional 200 million KRW subsidy will be provided by the Ministry of Environment through the Korea Automobile Environment Association.
Currently, there are only six electric vehicle chargers installed in institutions under the education office’s jurisdiction. Once the project proceeds, 143 more chargers will be added by the end of this year, increasing the total number to 149.
The education office plans to conduct on-site surveys of the 107 schools starting in September and begin installing chargers at each school as early as October, aiming to complete the installations by December.
The installed charging facilities will be mandatorily operated and managed for five years by the specialized company Daeyeong Chaebi, providing high-quality charging services to users.
The education office has achieved a budget saving of about 1.2 billion KRW, and since the private charging business operator handles everything from installation to operation and management, it greatly helps reduce the workload of schools.
An official from the education office said, “If the case of the Ulsan Office of Education spreads to other city and provincial education offices, the distribution of electric vehicle chargers in schools nationwide could increase dramatically. Establishing charging infrastructure within educational institutions has symbolic effects on the distribution and activation of eco-friendly vehicles and is expected to have educational effects by reminding students, the future leaders, of the significance of eco-friendly cars.”
