Gyeongbuk Daily Consumer Goods Confirm Popularity in New York, the Top US Consumption Hub
Export Consultation Results Increased Fivefold Compared to Pre-COVID at New York Consumer Goods Exhibition
Participation in 2022 New York Home Living Fair (NY NOW, 2022.8.14~17)
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Gyeongbuk Province operated a joint pavilion consisting of eight local household goods companies at the ‘2022 New York Home Living Expo (NY NOW)’ for four days from the 14th to the 17th.
Through this, they achieved a total export consultation and contract promotion amount of $1.49 million.
‘NY NOW’ is the largest household goods expo in the United States, held for about 80 years since 1942, with approximately 1,100 companies from around the world participating annually.
It is a consumer goods exhibition where about 30,000 local buyers and visitors, including representatives of high-end department stores and select shops, gather.
Gyeongbuk Province first participated in this exhibition in 2019 with a joint pavilion of six companies in cooperation with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency Daegu-Gyeongbuk Headquarters.
Participation had been postponed due to COVID-19, but this year, with the advent of the with-COVID era and increasing consumption in advanced countries such as the United States, the scale was expanded to eight companies.
Through participation in this exhibition, the number of consultations increased about twofold to 142 cases compared to 78 cases in 2019 before the COVID-19 outbreak, and the contract promotion and export consultation amount increased about fivefold to $1.49 million compared to $300,000.
It is evaluated that this successfully completed the first U.S. consumer goods exhibition with local companies participating on-site after COVID-19 and signaled the resumption of entry into the U.S., the world’s largest import market.
Eight local consumer goods companies participated in this exhibition: Korea ACC (lens cleaner), Arendel (baby mats), Lasa (cosmetics), Ludia (rayon, fabric), Bliss (bedding), Samsung Tex (textile fabric), Juseong Industry (beauty towels), and Tove (color cosmetics).
Arendel, which handles baby mats, successfully held consultations with a local New York company specializing in distributing well-being products and signed an on-site export contract worth $80,000.
The distributor that signed this contract showed an attitude to actively expand purchases of Korean household goods, including cosmetics, in the future.

Lee Eung-won, Director of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Division of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “This exhibition confirmed the high interest of U.S. buyers in Korean high-end consumer goods products amid the passive participation of Chinese companies in the exhibition,” and added, “The province plans to expand participation in practical exhibitions attended by large local distributors to actively support excellent local companies in exporting to major markets such as the U.S.”
