On this day, the Gyeongnam Headquarters held a press conference at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government press room and stated, "Serious accidents are corporate crimes," adding, "With a dismal feeling that the law punishing those responsible may become a paper tiger at the site, we are launching the Movement Headquarters for Creating a World Without Serious Accidents."
They criticized, "Ahead of the law's enforcement, companies and management are trying to avoid punishment by shifting all responsibility to the Chief Safety Officer and are engrossed in finding ways to escape legal nets with bureaucrats from the Ministry of Labor and legal technicians from large law firms."
They continued, "What the Serious Accident Punishment Act aims to protect is the lives and health of our families and neighbors," and explained, "Through the Movement Headquarters, we will operate a system to respond to serious accident issues occurring in the region and provide solidarity support."
"We will also carry out struggles to punish the highest responsible persons through serious accident response struggles and to establish fundamental measures to prevent recurrence of serious accidents through proper fact-finding," adding, "We will also engage in a campaign to amend the law so that the Serious Accident Punishment Act is fully applied to all workplaces."
On this day, the headquarters emphasized, “We hope that the political and economic sectors will discuss improvements to the Serious Accident Punishment Act together and discuss ways to protect the lives of your families and neighbors from serious accidents that could happen to them,”
