Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Supports Shipping Fees of '100,000 KRW for Hanwoo and 10,000 KRW for Pork' Before Chuseok
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 23rd that it will support shipping fees for Hanwoo cows and pigs until the 8th of next month ahead of Chuseok. This measure aims to promote shipments during the Chuseok peak season and stabilize supply.
The support period for Hanwoo cow shipping fees is from the day before until the 8th of next month. Farmers who ship and slaughter Hanwoo cows during this period will receive 100,000 KRW per head as a post-payment. Farmers who ship Hanwoo cows during the support period can apply for shipping fee support through the National Hanwoo Association, and the application period is until the 30th of next month.
The National Hanwoo Association will collect the applications and deliver them to the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Service, which plans to verify the actual slaughter status through traceability data. Once verification is completed in October to November, the shipping fees will be paid retrospectively through the National Hanwoo Association.
For pigs, shipping fees will be supported for pigs graded '1+, 1, 2'. The gender of the pigs does not matter. The support period for shipping fees is the same as for Hanwoo, from the day before until the 8th of next month. Farmers who ship and slaughter pigs during this period will receive 10,000 KRW per head as a post-payment. Eligibility to apply for the shipping fee support is limited to the 'actual owner of the pigs.'
Farmers who ship pigs during the support period can apply to the city, county, or district office (the local government where the farm is located, not where the slaughterhouse is) from September 13 to September 30, after Chuseok.
The total budget for pig shipping fees is 8.7 billion KRW (for approximately 870,000 pigs). If the budget is exhausted early, shipping fees will be supported in order of the earliest slaughter dates.
To apply for shipping fees, farmers should contact the city, county, or district office where their farm is located or the NongHyup Economic Holdings (Livestock Support Department) to receive the application form, fill it out, and submit it to the city, county, or district office. NongHyup Economic Holdings (Livestock Support Department) will collect the applications and deliver them to the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Service, which plans to verify the actual slaughter status through traceability data. Once verification is completed in October to November, the fees will be paid retrospectively through NongHyup Economic Holdings (Livestock Support Department).

Kim Jeong-wook, Director of Livestock Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "During the Chuseok peak season, prices rise, increasing the burden on the public, and after Chuseok, livestock product prices fall, causing difficulties for farmers, a problem that repeats every year." He added, "Through this shipping fee support, we plan to encourage shipments before Chuseok to increase supply and prevent oversupply after Chuseok to stabilize prices. We ask farmers to actively ship Hanwoo and pigs during the Chuseok peak season."
