President Yoon Urges Rookie Police Officers to "Give Their All" and Promises Improved Treatment
Attending the First Central Police Academy Graduation Ceremony After Inauguration
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol urged the young police officers taking their first steps on the 19th to devote their utmost efforts to their fundamental duty of protecting the lives and property of the people and maintaining law and order.
On the morning of the same day, President Yoon attended the graduation ceremony of the 310th class of new police officers held at the Central Police Academy in Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do, to encourage the rookie officers. This graduation ceremony is the first police officer graduation ceremony President Yoon has attended since taking office.
The ceremony was attended by President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee, 2,280 graduates of the 310th new police officer class, and about 9,000 family members of the graduates. Also present were Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Chairman of the Administrative Safety Committee Lee Chae-ik, People Power Party lawmaker Lee Jong-bae, Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do Kim Young-hwan, Mayor of Chungju Jo Gil-hyung, Chairman of the National Police Commission Kim Ho-cheol, and police leadership, who all joined to congratulate the graduates.
In his congratulatory speech, President Yoon urged the police to devote their utmost efforts to their fundamental duties and also promised to improve the treatment of frontline police officers. Specifically, President Yoon mentioned ▲ raising the basic salary of police officers to the level of public security officials ▲ introducing a multiple rank system for rationalizing job structure ▲ providing fair opportunities for promotion and assignment to police officers who started as patrol officers.
