View original image[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Han Ki-jung, nominated on the 18th as the candidate for the Chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, is regarded as an expert in Commercial Law and Insurance Law.
Candidate Han was born in Seoul in 1964, graduated from Yangjeong High School in Seoul, earned his law degree from Seoul National University in 1986, obtained a master's degree in Public Administration from the same university in 1990, and received a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 1996. He is an alumnus of Seoul National University Law School, class of 1982, along with Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
From 1997 to 2000, he served as an assistant professor and director of the Law Research Institute at Hallym University, and from 2000 to 2007, he was an assistant and associate professor at Ewha Womans University College of Law.
He has held advisory roles in financial authorities such as the Financial Services Commission Development Review Committee and the Financial Supervisory Service Administrative Guidance Review Committee, and served as an executive in insurance-related academic societies including the Korean Insurance Academic Society as an executive director and the Korean Insurance Law Society as vice president. From 2016 to 2019, he was the 4th president of the Korea Insurance Research Institute.
Since last year, he has worked as the chairman of the Ministry of Justice Inspection Committee and as a member of the Supreme Court Judicial Administration Advisory Council.
Candidate Han co-authored "Exploring a New Financial Law System (2006)" and published works such as "Modern Challenges of Insurance Law (2013)".
The Presidential Office stated, "Candidate Han is a legal scholar who respects market-oriented economic principles, and has also demonstrated expertise in administrative fields through his activities in research institutes and government committees," adding, "In research areas such as insurance policy terms, he has represented the 'weaker party's perspective' and has actively contributed to society based on his outstanding sense of balance."
