Pohang Mayor Lee Gang-deok Unanimously Elected as Chairman of the Gyeongbuk Mayors and Governors Association for the 8th Term

The Gyeongbuk Mayors and County Governors Association held its first regular meeting of the 8th term on the 18th at the Andong International Convention Center, where Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang was unanimously elected by attendees as the chairman for the first half of the term.
Mayor Lee Gang-deok will represent the 23 mayors and county governors of Gyeongbuk Province as a co-chairman of the Korea Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads, voicing the concerns of the region.
Along with managing the Gyeongbuk Mayors and County Governors Association, he will represent Gyeongbuk in raising opinions on various issues linked with the central government, and promote policy formulation and recommendations for improvements to foster the sound development of local autonomy.
The association will enhance mutual communication, exchange, and cooperation among the 23 cities and counties, discuss and prepare measures on common interests, and discover and promote projects for mutual development.
Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang said, “I feel a heavy responsibility in taking on the chairmanship at this important starting point of the 8th term of local government,” adding, “Together with the other mayors, county governors, and Governor Lee Cheol-woo, I will devote all my efforts to overcoming the crisis of local extinction and creating momentum for region-led balanced development.”
On this day, Son Byeong-bok, county governor of Uljin, was elected as the secretary-general of the Gyeongbuk Mayors and County Governors Association, and the term of the chairman and executive members is two years (the first half of the 8th term).
