Park Yong-jin on the Decision to 'Maintain Party Charter Article 80': "The First Step to Set the Party Right"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Park Yong-jin, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, evaluated the Emergency Response Committee's decision on the 17th to maintain 'Article 80, Clause 1 of the Party Charter' by saying, "It is the first step to making the Democratic Party truly democratic."
On the afternoon of the same day, Candidate Park posted on Facebook, calling it "a meaningful first step in setting the Democratic Party straight."
On this day, the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee rejected the amendment to Article 80 of the Party Charter prepared by the previous day’s Party Convention Preparation Committee and decided to maintain Article 80, Clause 1 of the Party Charter, which includes the provision for suspension from duties upon indictment. However, Clause 3 was revised to specify that "Notwithstanding Clause 1, in cases where there is recognition of unjust reasons such as political oppression, a different decision may be made by resolution of the Party Affairs Committee."
Regarding this, Candidate Park said, "It is a decision that preserves the spirit of Article 80 of the Party Charter while embracing the opinions of many comrades," and added, "I am grateful for the Emergency Response Committee’s decision to listen to the voices of both party members and the public, as well as comrades."
