Kyung Hee University Hospital Conducts 'Dementia Safety Village Campaign' in Dongdaemun-gu
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Kyung Hee University Hospital announced on the 17th that Vice Director Kim Jong-woo (Professor of Psychiatry) conducted the 'Dementia Safe Village, Let's Do It Together' campaign in collaboration with the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center.
This campaign was held to introduce dementia-related support projects and inform dementia patients and their families about how to use them. Various programs aimed at improving awareness and understanding of dementia were carried out for local residents, including early dementia screening and professional counseling, the computer-based group rehabilitation cognitive program CoTras-G, and a dementia awareness survey. A mobile caf? called 'Memory Caf?,' where elderly people with mild cognitive impairment participated as baristas and provided free drinks, was also operated.
Vice Director Kim serves as the head of the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center and participates in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's community dementia prevention projects. He is promoting Dongdaemun-gu's unique 'Smart Dementia Safe Village' project, which strengthens fences to prevent dementia patients from going missing, and has established a customized promotion and education system for the safe village by operating experiential education programs incorporating ICT technology.
A representative project is the 'Smart Dementia Care Home' platform using IoT technology. It was designed to address the lack of dementia management during the COVID-19 situation by enabling real-time dementia care at home through non-face-to-face methods to manage residents' health and safety.
Vice Director Kim emphasized, "While the number of dementia patients is increasing due to longer life expectancy, the general public's understanding of dementia is relatively low," adding, "The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness and consideration for dementia patients." He continued, "We will do our best to work together with Dongdaemun-gu to ensure that correct understanding of dementia and activities for dementia patients continue."
