Opening of Deokjin Gwangyang Spring Premium 2 Senior Center in Okgok, Gwangyang City
Long-Awaited Opening of Senior Center Expected to Foster Harmony Among Local Elders and Residents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the 12th, Okgok-myeon, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do, held an opening ceremony for the Okgok ‘Deokjin Gwangyang Spring Premium 2 Senior Center’ with about 90 attendees including Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa, key guests, and local residents.
The ‘Deokjin Gwangyang Spring Premium 2 Senior Center’ was created as a comfortable space for the elderly, equipped with kitchen facilities, exercise equipment, and basic amenities. The opening ceremony proceeded in the order of guest introductions, progress report, congratulatory speeches, encouragement speeches, and a plaque unveiling ceremony.
An elderly attendee at the opening ceremony expressed, “It was very inconvenient without a senior center until now, but I am very happy that a good resting place has been created where local residents can share warm affection together and the elderly can rest comfortably.”
Okgok-myeon Chief Moon Seong-gi and Deokjin Senior Center Chairman Go Young, who put great effort into opening the senior center, stated, “We expect that the opening of the senior center, a long-cherished project, will become an opportunity for local seniors and residents to communicate and harmonize.”
Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa said in his greeting, “There were many ups and downs until the senior center opening ceremony, but I am happy and proud that we overcame them well and created a space for communication.”
He added, “I hope the newly opened senior center will be widely used as a place where residents share warm affection, live healthy and happy later years, unite as a community, and where joyful sounds flow as a beloved gathering place.”
