Is There Another Name Besides 'Multicultural'? ... Ulsan City Holds Contest for Alternative Terms to Replace Discriminatory and Negative Images
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City is looking for a new name to replace 'multicultural.' From the 16th to the 29th, the city will hold a two-week contest to find an alternative term for 'multicultural.'
This contest aims to prevent confusion caused by the term 'multicultural,' which carries discriminatory and negative connotations toward marriage immigrants, and because different central government departments use various terms such as foreigners and international marriage families.
With the start of the 8th elected administration, Ulsan City plans to create a consensus in the local community through a naming contest involving direct citizen participation, excluding negative elements to achieve social integration.
Any Ulsan citizen can participate. Citizens are encouraged to submit alternative terms that everyone can relate to and that can unify the local community instead of the term 'multicultural.'
To participate, follow the instructions posted on the Ulsan City website's Citizen Refinement Room or download the attached form and submit it via email.
