About 70 Members of Cargo Solidarity Occupy Hite Jinro Headquarters in a Surprise Action
Company Side Discusses Response to Illegal Occupation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Cargo Solidarity is occupying and protesting at the HiteJinro headquarters in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
According to HiteJinro on the 16th, about 70 Cargo Solidarity union members entered the building unexpectedly around 6:10 a.m. and are occupying the first floor lobby and the rooftop of the headquarters.
Due to the Cargo Solidarity occupation of the headquarters, HiteJinro employees have been unable to go to work and are reportedly gathering in front of the building.
The conflict between HiteJinro and Cargo Solidarity has been ongoing for several months and is gradually intensifying. A total of 132 truck owners belonging to Suyang Logistics, the freight transport subcontractor for HiteJinro’s Icheon plant in Gyeonggi and Cheongju plant in Chungbuk, joined Cargo Solidarity in March and have been striking while demanding an increase in transportation fees.
