TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team to Conclude Season 8 in Seoul
"Planning to Dedicate to Season 9"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Porsche AG announced on the 15th that it concluded Season 8 of the world's first electric racing series with the 100th race held at the Seoul E-Prix on the 14th. Two Porsche 99X Electric race cars took to the grid once again, sporting a new and unique livery design commemorating the world premiere of the smartwatch jointly developed for the first time by Porsche and TAG Heuer, the ‘TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 - Porsche Edition.’
Since 2021, Porsche and TAG Heuer have collaborated as global partners, with TAG Heuer serving as the title partner of the Formula E team since 2019. In its third season, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team did not achieve as notable results as expected at the Seoul E-Prix. Andr? Lotterer did not cross the finish line in his final Formula E race, and Pascal Wehrlein, who finished 7th in the race on the 13th, had no mistakes but had to retire early in the race.
Season 8 was a rollercoaster for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. On February 12, 2022, Wehrlein achieved a historic 1-2 finish at the Mexico City E-Prix. At the Aut?dromo Hermanos Rodr?guez, Pascal Wehrlein secured Porsche’s first victory in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the Porsche 99X Electric. Andr? Lotterer finished second, delivering a perfect victory for Porsche in its third season.
At the Rome E-Prix, Andr? Lotterer was racing toward the winner’s trophy. With less than 12 minutes remaining, he maintained the lead. However, after the first safety car period, he lost pace and was overtaken by competitors, and following the second safety car period, he fell to a position where he could no longer reclaim the lead.
Pascal Wehrlein aimed for victory at the Monaco E-Prix. Battling for position from the front grid, he led the race with breathtaking control at the tunnel exit before the Port Chicane on the legendary Grand Prix circuit of the Principality of C?te d'Azur, widening the gap from other drivers. However, after the mid-race point, his Porsche 99X Electric suddenly lost speed and he had to retire due to technical issues.
In the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship driver standings, Pascal Wehrlein finished 10th with 71 points over 16 races, while Andr? Lotterer ended the season 12th with 63 points. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team ranked 7th in the team standings with 134 points.
